Opelousas Spice & Music Festival Announces Cook-Off Winners

First Place Winner, Alfred Dupree Jr.
Second Place, Dr. Scott Rohner Chiropractic
3rd Place Maureen Martin

(Opelousas,LA) - The Spice and Music Festival is proud to announce the winners of the 5th annual cook-off contest.  Contestants were judged using several criteria which determined the first, second and third place winners.  The contestants were asked to cook 2 lbs. of red beans and rice and added their own ingredients of spices and herbs. “You could smell the aroma miles away, judging these contestants was not an easy task,” said Jackie Reed, one of the judges for the cook-off.


 First place winner went to Mr. Alfred Dupree, Jr., Opelousas, second place winners was the team of Dr. Scott Rohner Chiropractic of Opelousas, and third place winner was Ms. Maureen Martin, Melville.

 

After the winners were announced, the contestants gave samples of their cooking.
Coordinators, Patricia Richard and Florence Freeman would like to give
special thanks to the contestants, judges and Targil Seasoning for providing tent accommodations for the cook-off.

 

The judges were Mr. Herman Fuselier of Bayou Boogie, Ms. Alisha Deville, KSLO 107.1, Ms. Jackie Reed, Cleco, Inc. and Ms. Spice and Music Festival Queen, Ms. Ruth Fruge.
